A+ BootCamp – the Cloud!

Today I focused on learning Cloud Technologies. While reading, I learned about hosting your own web server on Amazon’s cloud service, AWS. I decided to give it a whirl! I learned many things during this mini project. First, I strengthened my knowledge on DNS records, such as A records and CNAME records. I bought the domain name on SquareSpace by accident, and needed to find a way to link the domain name to the IP AWS had given me. I was able to find the DNS settings on SS’s website and set a custom A record to point to this website’s IP address. I also updated the nameservers to WordPresses’. I also learned how to use Linux commands (although I am still clunky with using the interface). I also learned how to troubleshoot problems, such as trying to flush the DNS, delete the DNS cache on my web browser, and how to reach out to a new DNS server (I connected to Google’s, which is extremely fast). I also made a rookie mistake and forgot to set a static IP for my website, so I had to redo everything…I will try to set an SSL for my website tomorrow morning! :o)

If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit.

Banksy

Fun fact about this picture of Patches – Marjo and I had set up an FTP server between his local server and my computer, and I had access to the photos on his phone through it. I could only see the file names of the photos (not the image itself), so I chose one at random. Imagine my surprise when the file opened and it was this picture of Patches looking absolutely miserable! I laughed for-EVER!
